Musings on Learning and Development, the journey and a milestone.

Vi Business Capability Industry Recognition

‘The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.’ –Alvin Toffler

Learning is a critical focus area in the debate on the Future of Work. The pace of change is fully evident in the Learning and Development portfolio for organisations. The recent research on skills and talent shows that half of the top in-demand skills weren’t even on the list a few years ago. I found this to be true too. My colleague Ruhi and I gleaned many learning trends reports as a part of a ritual to create an outside-in inspiration pack for our annual planning. I am sharing the Hello Learning 2021 report for reference.

The ask is nothing short of a transformation in the approach and execution of a focused large-scale learning and re-/up skilling program. There are several structured frameworks and approaches and one of them I found to be quite simply well-defined is a blog series on Future of Work by Mckinsey–“Getting skills transformations right: The nine-ingredient recipe for success”.

As we went about our capability plans, we built several path-breaking programs for sales, solutions, service, channel partners, and other functions. One of my personal favorites is to make learning a habit, a daily one.

A lot of research happens on what happens in an internet minute.

Local IQ Statista Domo A colossal lot indeed!

How about investing 10 minutes for learning? We launched Success Habits, a micro-learning program. The program is a commitment to invest 10 minutes every day- for 21 days –in 2021. Simply put Success Habits = 10–21–21. The program has proven that building habits are possible by building micro-habits, ones that are repeatable and have fewer barriers to accomplish.

With 2021 severely shrouded in uncertainty, it wasn’t easy to deliver an all virtual learning and development portfolio. The start-stop-start back-to-office modes of working, the relentless focus on customer empathy andcustomer engagement, and many innovative digital learning avenues made 2021 a tough yet memorable. The learning dashboards, the feedback from colleagues only show that the journey for learning excellence has just begun. In such a long journey, moments such as industry recognition only serve as a great vindication of strategy and keep us motivated to pursue excellence.

It’s quite gratifying to have a recognition by Transformance in two categories, Best E-Learning Strategy and L&D Innovation — Talent Development.

As we navigate the future of work in the Business2Human domain, I recount a telling trend from the 2021 Workspace Learning trends report by Udemy, “Amidst uncertainty, self-mastery is a valued skill”.

For the love of learning keep the fire burning!
